Summer of Socks 2009

I've started my sock for SOS 2009. Is this yarn beautiful or what? Sundara Yarn, 100% superwash merino, colorway Brambleberry. I'm using US 1 Signature DPNs. They are FANTASTIC. I love my Inox DPN but these are so pointy and just so beautiful to look at.

The pattern I'm using is the Baby Cable Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch. This is the second time I'm using this pattern and I love it as much this time as last. I decided to do these toe-up this time starting with the cable row. They look good, I think. And I learned a new trick: figure-8 cast-on! A little dicey at first but I think I'm getting the hang of it, having done it twice because I didn't like the pointiness of the 8 stitch cast-on I used the first time. My feet are very box-like: toes are pretty much in a straight line across the top of my foot, hence I don't like a pointy toe.

Can't wait to get knitting on these later today.

Socks go down the shore

As all New Jersey-ites know, one goes 'down the shore' when one goes to the easternmost part of the state. One does not go to the beach, or to the seaside, one goes down the shore. Yesterday my socks and I, or should I say partially completed sock and sock in training, went down the shore to visit my sisters and mother who were vacationing at LBI. While there I took the sock for a little peek at the ocean. We didn't go out for too long...sunblock and all those things. Sock is really coming along. I figure another inch or two and then I'll start the toe. I'd love to have the second sock cast on before the end of the month. That way I'll have time to work on them on vacation!

One pair of socks off the needles!

Saints be praised! I have finished my first EVER pair of socks! But don't get excited. These are socks I started back in December 2006 and they're for me. Regia 4 #5439 (75% wool, 25% nylon). Pictures are coming soon...maybe even tonight...if I can figure out how to get them out of my camera and into my computer. Technology is not my strong suit, but knitting sure is. They must be washed and blocked. I'm so thrilled with the way they turned out. So thrilled that I went out and bought yarn for two more pair of socks from Emily at www.emilyparson.etsy.com. Can't wait to get them in my hands and stroke them.
